Game #10 and our last of a great season and everyone was in high spirits (well the Fireballs were) at a lovely 9am start.
Our guys played a great game today.
Noah H. had a nice goal (and another which stopped on the line in the long grass) and demonstrated some of the best dribbling we’ve seen this year.
Once he obtained possession of the ball, he did a great job of protecting the ball from the Serpents.
He was at times a ferocious ball shark, preying on unsuspecting opposing dribblers.
Travis S. bounced back from an injury to score a fine goal.
Surely one of the nicest passes of the year.
He again showed off some terrific ninja moves with powerful kicks and stealth defense.
Cole W. showed off some fantastic hustle and speed. He consistently beat the other team down field to defend the goal.
He had a nice coast–to–coast goal where he maintained possession of the ball down the length of the pitch and hammered it home.
Our team jumped out to an early lead, but without substitutions, we ran out of gas towards the end of the game, while the other team was able to bring in some fresh players and took a lead just before time ran out.
Final score, 7–4 to the Serpents.
In the other game this week, Bryson B., Bryson W., Jack D. and Isaac K. were up against a half–decent Green Serpents team. The Fireballs played well and zoomed to a 5–1 half–time lead. They looked uncatchable (famous last words).
Bryson B. was quiet this week (compared to his usual self) but was very effective in annoying the other team, ball–winning and dribbling.
Isaac K. improved again this week with a good game. Always at the heart of what was going on, getting stuck–in and so so so close to scoring. Only a bobble of the ball at the last moment prevented his first goal!
Five goals from The Cannonball this week. Bustling around the park, knocking kids over (legally), ball winning and scoring at will. Bryson W. was excellent this week. He capped it off with an astounding goal from well inside his own half. Hat tip to you Sir!
The Serpents switched things around and just before the final whistle they managed to claw back the deficit and sneak it 6–5.
It was a strange day. We were winning comfortably in both games at half–time, 3–1 and 4–1 but tiredness and some good Serpents play turned things around for them. Winning 7–4 and 6–5. Well done to them.
There was the usual good play by the Fireballs but this week, just wasn’t enough to sneak a win.
