Game 6 — @ Orange Fireballs

A new color this week as the Pleasant Hill Fireballs were up against another Fireball–themed team; however these guys played in orange rather than the more traditional red.

The Orange Fireballs were very short of numbers with only four players ready–to–go right up until kick–off when just–in–time they managed to produce another orange Fireball and bring their total to five.

In keeping with the spirit of the game, this meant we would need some of our Fireballs to step up, fill in and play against their team mates…

In the first game this week we had Rocco B., Noah H., Travis S. and Bryson B. ready to take on a two–man Orange Fireballs team (which seemed to be their best two players).

Each of the four Fireballs graciously volunteered to play for the Orange Fireballs (and forfeit any break period they might get).

Bryson B. was looking very fresh after last weeks rest and had LOTS of energy. He did way more than his share of tackling, fighting and dribbling as his golden boots worked overtime. He took quite a lot of throw–ins showing good technique and power!

He made a few chances and scored a fine breakaway goal to give the Fireballs some hope in the game.

Bryson B. also played a quarter for the Orange Fireballs and was very impressive when he played against us!

Noah H. played well this week and was always shouting for a pass and trying to sneak a wee goal.

Early in the first quarter, he stole the ball, controlled it well, spun round and launched a powerful textbook rocket from the halfway line. It zipped all the way to the goal and rattled the net. Noah H. raised his hands in celebration before quickly realizing he had scored into the wrong goal! Still, a goal is a goal and it was very well taken and he worked hard to make amends.

No more goals for Noah H. but he did have two fantastic stops on the goal line to keep the Orange Fireballs out. One with some quick feet and the other with his hands (accidentally of course) as he caught a well struck shot by the Orange Fireballs big strong player. Referee Shawn B. was quick, kind and correct to rule it as accidental and play resumed from a dropped ball.

Noah H. did very well when he played for the Orange Fireballs, he had some good dribbles and tackles on his team mates and was the only one who fitted into the reserve Orange jersey!

The Crocodile (Rocco B.) had another good game. No goals this week but he was his usual snappy self. Getting in the way, disrupting and generally annoying his opposition. He was also showing some good corner kick taking skills! Nice work.

He was even more annoying when he played for the Orange Fireballs for a quarter as he showed the same determination and spirit against us!

Good game Rocco B., keep up the good work and he is definitely the player we like playing against, the least!

Travis S. must have read our Match Report from last week as he was all over the place like The Ninja we named him. Getting his big long legs in the way of the ball, tackling, cool jumps and so so close to a goal.

Travis S. had the shot of the day which cruelly hit the post and rebounded back as everyone thought it was going to be a great goal.

Great shot Travis S., keep up the effort, it really is great to see.

Travis S. switched his initial decision not to play for the Orange Fireballs (which was cool) and enthusiastically played the last quarter for them. In fact, he was instrumental in keeping the Pleasant Hill Fireballs at bay!

It was a tough game for the team. After Noah H.’s accidental own–goal and four quick goals early in the first half from the big strong Orange Fireball, our Fireballs were always playing catchup.

They had their chances to come back and almost got there thanks to two good goals later in the game (one for Bryson B. and the other I have no idea, it was a melee) but it just wasn’t enough.

I think the main reason the Orange Fireballs won today was because they had Pleasant Hill Fireballs playing for them!

The final score was 5–2 for the Orange Fireballs. Weirdly, they won the first half 5–0 and we won the second half 2–0.

As always they kept going right till the end and that was great to see.

In other game, the guys were Bryson W., Cole W., Isaac K. and Jack D.. The opposition was three Orange Fireballs to play against which was a lot better, but when one of them had a meltdown, Jack D. was kind enough to step up and play for them.

Bryson W. was everywhere. Scoring non–stop with some excellent defensive stops and fine passing to his teammates. He scored a fantastic nine of the Fireballs goals!

His best game for the team.

Cole W. had one of his best games yet. Scored one goal, and stopped the other team numerous times. He made a solid effort to battle for the ball throughout the game.

Isaac K. was mixing it up. He did a little bit of everything. Goal kicks, throw ins, defensive stops and some near misses on the goal.

Jack D. was a solid team player. He was the only one to play all four quarters. In the third quarter, he was demonstrated solid sportsmanship by helping the Orange Fireballs when they had a man down.

They all played very well and by the final whistle, the score was a convincing 10–1 to the Fireballs.

Another good week for the Fireballs with one win and a close defeat. On another day they could have won the other game. Still some things to work on but everyone is working hard and improving.

Great to see the guys cheer on their team mates today.

Thank you to Shawn B. for being our Referee again AND a special thank you to the Dad & Mom of Bryson W. for an inventive snack bag this week!
