Despite some overnight heavy rain, the game was on and a full compliment of Fireballs were keen to play our eighth game of the season.
We faced a well drilled and coached Jets squad. They had nine players to choose from and quite a few of them were very skillful.
Coach Ed H. had the Fireballs rub some mud on their faces in an attempt to get them used to the wet and dirt. This pre–game routine seemed to go down very well.
In the first game this week, we had Isaac K., Cole W., Bryson B. and Rocco B. up against a pretty decent Jets selection. Our guys fought really hard. They were quick to the ball and made several fine defensive plays.
Bryson B. had some fantastic dribbling and some really close shots, however, the other team had someone posted in front of the goal all game.
Isaac K. had some nice tackles and showed off some of his dribbling skills. He also showed us how to have fun with the mud puddles.
Isaac K. found a particularly deep puddle and he made sure he stepped right in the middle of it every time we ran up and down the field.
Cole W. was demonstrating blazing speed and beat the other guys downfield all game long. He had some strong kicks and some really close shots that just went wide.
Rocco B. was superb at tackling and swiped the ball several times.
Rocco B. took a solidly kicked ball right on the kisser and had to sit out for a few minutes but he came back strong to help his team mates finish the game.
Unfortunately, the other team maintained a strong tactical advantage by using space and spreading the field to sneak in a few unanswered goals, resulting in a 5–0 defeat.
Bryson W. had another great game. He bustled, harried and annoyed his way round the field and opposition.
Bryson W. frequently thwarted the Jets attacks and scored two great length–of–the–field goals. A good solid performance in tough conditions.
Noah H. had another good game. Buzzing round the field like a little annoying bumblebee.
Noah H. came so close on two or three occasions and on another day could have had a hat trick.
Jack D. had his best game so far for the Fireballs. He had some good powerful kicks and a couple of good annoying tackles.
Travis S. was in fine form this week. He was all around the field like the Energizer Bunny and didn't stop with his ninja kicks, tackling and dribbling.
The guys didn’t quite get there in the end and lost out stubbornly 5–2. Three quick Jets goals when it was 1–1 rather killed the game off.
The game was rather spoilt by the windy weather but the boys didn’t give up and if any number of their half–dozen or so super close chances hade gone in the goal, the result would have been much different.
Their was some great teamwork, passing and the guys tried their best with our new quick throw in skill, TURBO!
Thank you to Shawn B. for refereeing.
It was also Coach Ed H.’s Birthday this week!
